TGIF

Check out these two lovelies! Jeff found them yesterday on a walk...I have passed by this place a million times and have never seen them. They are sort of tucked away so they would be easy to miss. I was so glad I took my camera with me...I usually never do.
Yesterday was my mom's birthday (Happy Birthday!) and an allium she gave me last fall bloomed for the first time yesterday! Coincidence?

Hot, Steaming pile of mulch.

I ordered five cubic yards of mulch on saturday that was delivered yesterday afternoon. I was so excited to finally do something constructive in the yard aside from just pulling weeds.

I really had no idea how much five cubic yards would end up being, but it's quite a lot. Especially when you have to shovel it into a wheelbarrow and wheel it all the way across to the other side of the yard.

I wanted it mainly because I have recently ripped out an area around a large tree in the back yard that used to be
completely overrun with weeds and suckers from the tree that the previous owners just let run wild. but I didn't think about what would happen after I cleared the area and exposed all of that lovely soil. Turns out, it was a prime location for baby weeds to start hatching, so I needed to get something to cover the area pronto. (The blue arrow in the photo was to point out a wishing well that had been completely obscured by all of that growth- it was the only "before" pic I could find of this area) The photo doesn't really give a good idea of how large the overgrowth was either- that stuff was about 7ft high. Here is a pic of the area cleared of all weeds and with a lovely brand new layer of mulch. You can see how much of that area was covered up by all of that overgrowth, and that's not nearly the entire area. I spent about two hours yesterday evening shoveling, hauling, dumping and smoothing. That is HARD work, but I loved it. I am thinking of putting a pond over in this area but, I am not sure. Everything I have read about ponds says that this would be a bad location, so I have been thinking about doing a dry creek bed sort of thing instead. Lord knows I have enough rocks- but that's an entirely different rant.

Sewing Insanity

I've got a big ol' pile of muslin in my trash can after repeated attempts at sewing a top from my sloper pattern. I am still having fitting issues. I have altered the pattern so much that I finally went back to the original pattern just to see what my original issue was.

I know it has something to do with the armscye. The original pulls too tightly across my chest at my armpits in the front. The pattern I have altered to fix the pulling now has an extra pouch of fabric, it's like a vertical fold next to my arms. Ugh...somewhere in between the two is the answer. I have a couple of books on hold at the library that hopefully will help.

Driving me crazy.

Currently: May 5, 2006

My friend Carrie sent me a link to The Monster Engine. It's such a great idea. He takes children's drawings of monster, superheros and such and paints them. I had seen of few of these finished paintings in a book I have called Spectrum 12, but I didn't realize it's a whole lecture tour/ series. The next few books are going to have different subjects like the circus and under the sea. I can't wait to see those!

Ch Ch Changes...

As you can tell by this new look, I have migrated from hand coding my blog to a nifty service that will do it for me. It took me a while to figure it all out, but I finally got it up and running.
