Happy Earth Day!

Things have been very busy here. We are still not done painting...I don't know what made me think I could get it all done in a weekend. We had to stop because we have had guests and paint fumes are not cool for making people feel comfortable. If I was cool I would have gone with an eco-friendly non-fuming paint, but I am not cool. Not yet. There has also been a bought of sickness which seems to be going around. And then there is the weather. What can I even say about that? Friday was like: "Rain, rain, sleet, SUN!, no wait - rain - I mean snow, SNOW!, snow, rain, sun again!, rain, snow!" It was the craziest weather ever. Completely manic.

This strange, cold weather is making me wonder what to do about my garden. I think this weekend I am going to prep the beds and perhaps plant some cold season crops like lettuce and such. I had to get my mom's opinion about what the heck my rhubarb is doing:

Is that a FLOWER? It's barely out of the ground! Sheesh. Perhaps it thought with this weather being all crazy that it should get down to business pronto! I lopped it off. There will be no silly business in my vegetable patch, this is a respectable household.

J found this lovely black mushroom on a railroad tie in our yard. It's host to the most wonderful array of fungi and moss.

This is my favorite, the red is so incredibly vibrant. It's just beautiful. One of my favorite things about living the in the Pacific Northwest is the moss.

I have been meaning to paint the downstairs hallway for, oh...now EVER I think, but have kept putting it off. Now I know why. Painting trim sucks. My hand is killing me. I am also painting the doors, and I didn't really think about what this entailed before I started. Do I paint the sides? Do I paint the insides? So much fiddly stuff...taking off door knobs, hinges and those little plate thingys. I am done with the priming and have started on the trim color and Oh God I can't wait until this is done. I have to admit that at this point I am only caring about what they look like from the outside and will deal with the other sides when I get to the rooms those sides are in. Did that make sense?

Here is the front entry way before:

Dark huh? There are two other doors in this space you can't really see behind the wall, one closet and one that goes upstairs. There is also a really nasty 1970's light fixture that will need to be updated as well. Anh-Minh pointed out one that would work really well here.

Hall area #1:

This should be easy to paint as it's mainly wall. No trim!

Hall area #2: More Damn friggin' doors.

I also want new door knobs as the ones we have are probably original 1970's horror knobs as they are completely hideous.

I am hoping to finish this up this weekend and will post the "afters" for you.
