I came home from lunch this week and let the cat out. I saw this a few moments later:

Lulu had a bug and the deer wanted a closer look. I am assuming to see if it was something the deer could potentially eat by the way she was devouring my tomatoes.

She very quickly realized that it was nothing special and she went back to munching. I could have run her off, but she looked too skinny and she had these with her so as far as I was concerned she could eat as much as she wanted, even though she took a big old hunk out the only tomato I had:

Sweet babies. Chillin' in my new mulch no less.

Look what I scavenged:

It's really sturdy and in great shape, I can't wait to fix it up. And on a completely different note, we recently received another pile of mulch and have been busy covering up a section of yard that I had been killing with a huge tarp:

Slowly....slowly, someday...there will be no water hogging grass to mow. Can you see those red specks in the distance in the photo above? My dahlias are finally blooming and they are beautiful.

I have not done as much in my yard this year as I would have hoped, mainly because of the weather, which, is just an excuse, but I am going to use it anyway. It's was cold and wet with a brief glimmer of summer and then "Poof!" Gone. The deer ate my tomatoes and my basil didn't ever really take off. I don't know what it is, but I cannot grow basil to save my life.

I think I have talked about my love of Jamie Oliver's newest show, Jamie at Home. It's my favorite food show on right now, and maybe of all time. One of the reasons I love, love, love it is all of the gardening. I could also go into how he lives in my total dream house, but that would take up too much of this page.

I preordered the companion book a long time ago and I finally got it this week. It's everything I was hoping for. FIrst, it's arranged by seasons. Second, there are a ton of pictures, and third, he has planting information and tips for everything.

Another one of my favorite new gardening finds this summer was the new blog by Willi Galloway called Diggin Food. I listen to KUOW's yard talk podcast at work and in addition to being the West Coast editor of Organic Gardening, and the gardening expert for eHow, Willi is one of the panelists on the show. She is also from Wyoming so I automatically had to like her. I have learned so much listening to that show.

Today is the start of my new redesign. As you can see I am going for what one would call "minimal." I have known for a long time that I wanted to revamp everything but it's taken me a loooooong time to decide what to do. It seems like all the rage these days is to do the whole paper/texture route a la design sponge, which, do not get me wrong, I totally love. It's just that I couldn't make it work for me. It always ended up looking like a crazy mess and I would get discouraged and give up and a horrible downward spiral would ensue. And then I had this whole map/castle Color! Everywhere! theme going on and I finally decided it was completely hideous. I think that incarnation is what drove me here. So. Make sure you click on each page (don't forget the home page) to see the first new images I have created in what seems to be an eternity. Even better, for those who know these things, this entire site was done without using ONE table. I think I am proudest of that more than anything.

I have recommitted myself to the creation of images and am not going to get distracted by cool new things like silk screening, sewing my own clothes, food blogging, home decorating and gardening.

Oh, who am I kidding? Of course I am.

It seems that my comments are not working at the moment, but I will fix that asap.
