This week was so totally draining. The snow was kind of cool in the magical way snow can be, especially if it’s the first snow of the winter. The ice storm was unexpected and really sucked, yet was sort of fascinating at the same time. We listened to the trees in the wetlands that surround us SNAP! CRACK! CRASH! for two days. It got really scary when the maple tree on the neighboring property crashed on our fence, and then again on our yard and roof a few hours later. Being without power for so long was by far the hardest part. We are on a well so that also meant no water. Thank God for our wood stove…that gave us heat and a place to cook and heat water. Cold, frustrated, sleep deprived. The power finally came on, then went off, then came back on again. A week later pretty much all of the snow is gone and there are tree parts scattered all over town waiting to be chipped or turned into firewood.
I feel like I can finally relax and I’m looking forward to getting my routine back!
Hey Erica, we get our puzzles from garage sales but are mostly kids ones these days. The one we did was our neighbors as we were shacked up with them sharing their heat and our food. 🙂 I hear Goodwill or other thrift shops are another good place to get puzzles.
Thankfully we have a wood burning stove and that kept us nice and toasty. Jeffery took the good photos…I forgot to credit him! Oops!

I had not done a puzzle in YEARS and I had forgotten how much I love doing them. I am definitely going to have to go out and get another one! When Borders was closing they had a ton of them on sale and I am totally kicking myself for not getting one. Where do you get yours? Wind Up Here?
We did a puzzle by candlelight as well. Funny that it was probably even more challenging that way instead of with electric light with all the candle/flashlight glare. But we finished! 🙂 Glad you guys survived okay.

We are all well, thank you! and now that the snow has all I am happy to report that today I watched a gang of über fat robins pick at grubs and stuff all over the place. I am so glad that the snow melted so quickly, but I totally need to get better about bird feeding. It’s on my to-do list for the next year.
Goodness me! You have done very well to cope with all this. I hope all the local wildlife are doing OK too – it’s so hard for many creatures when things are frozen and there is snow on the ground. Thank heavens it’s all melted away!
You are right…it takes a lot of energy being cold and worried and inconvenienced. You guys must get a generator! They are too noisy but it is so needed and I’m thinking you can hook up your well to it too so it solves 2 problems. We’ve been spending our days since recovering and cleaning and lots of sleeping.
